We’re working with a well-funded tech business in Newcastle that’s looking to bring in a QA Automation Engineer to help automate their award-winning web platform. This is a newly created role with backing from leadership and budget already signed off as part of a long-term move towards full automation.

You’ll be joining an established QA function, working closely with the current QA Lead on automating the business’s rewards platform using Playwright. The wider team currently doesn’t have Playwright experience, so part of your role will be helping to shape how the team grows into this space over the next 12–18 months, giving you a real chance to make a change within the organisation.

You’ll be given time and support to settle in with training and a clear plan in place that will be written in conjunction with yourself during your onboarding. This role is ringfenced specifically to help drive Playwright automation, and over time you’ll help coach and mentor the wider QA team as they get upskilled.

At present there is already:

  • A QA Lead you’ll work alongside as the initial go-to for automation
  • Training for both you and existing team members in Playwright and JavaScript
  • A roadmap to get the full team up to speed over the next 12 months
  • New technical leadership and an open-minded team looking for guidance from experienced QA professionals

What you’ll bring:

  • 3+ hands-on experience with Playwright
  • Strong JavaScript skills and knowledge of test automation frameworks
  • Ability to coach and mentor others in a collaborative, open environment
  • Clear communication and a passion for building scalable, reliable automation
  • A strategic mindset and interest in shaping QA processes

When it comes to the current working situation it is as follows:

  • Newcastle-based team - with 2-3 days a week in the office, hybrid working available the rest of the time
  • Projects for major household names including leading global tech brands

If you’re passionate about automation and want to help shape the direction of a growing QA function then this could be a great opportunity to put your stamp on something big. Do not hesitate to put your CV across today to speak to us and see if this could be the one for you.
