Ready to sell something that actually matters? How does working for a business where over 80% of employees recommend it as a Great Place to Work sound? A business independently accredited as a Great Place to Work, with a high number of boomerang employees who choose to come back because the culture, support and opportunity are genuinely there.

NRG Riverside is continuing to grow, and we’re looking for a high-calibre Business Development Manager to take ownership of the Central South region. This is a true new-business role, suited to someone who understands complex fleet operations and knows how to turn relationships into long-term, profitable partnerships.

About The Role

As Business Development Manager, you’ll be responsible for identifying, developing and winning new business across the municipal, waste and specialist vehicle sectors, while also growing revenue from an existing customer base where appropriate. This is not a transactional sales role. You’ll be selling operational solutions, often into time-pressured, compliance-led environments, working with customers who value reliability, expertise and long-term support. You’ll manage opportunities from first conversation through to vehicle delivery and implementation, working closely with internal stakeholders to ensure what’s sold can be delivered – and delivered well.

Who You’ll Be Working For

NRG Riverside is the UK’s largest municipal and specialist fleet hire company, providing specialist vehicles on short- and long-term hire, flexible hire solutions for operational continuity, comprehensive maintenance and support packages and large, high-quality portfolio of used vehicles for sale. Established in 1996, we support customers to rationalise and decarbonise fleets, reduce costs and minimise Vehicle Off Road (VOR) time. Our reputation is built on operational understanding, reliability and long-term partnerships.

What kind of person are we looking for?

  • You’ll likely already be operating successfully in fleet, transport, waste or specialist vehicle sales, and you’ll understand how councils, contractors and large operators buy.

Key Experience And Attributes

  • Strong knowledge of fleet, transport and/or waste operations
  • Proven track record of winning and closing new business
  • Confidence presenting to operational, commercial and senior stakeholders
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to generate and progress your own pipeline
  • Comfortable working across multiple opportunities with differing timelines
  • Organised, commercially focused and detail-oriented
  • Technically credible – able to discuss vehicle types, specifications and applications
  • Understanding of customer and internal procurement processes
  • Collaborative mindset – works well with operations, pricing, and senior leadership
  • Flexible, resilient and driven by outcomes

What You’ll Be Doing Day To Day

  • As the Business Development Manager you will proactively identify, develop and win new business opportunities
  • Manage customer relationships from initial contact through to implementation
  • Build strong relationships with customers, suppliers and internal colleagues
  • Create, submit and follow up on quotations for new and existing customers
  • Support and contribute to tenders and larger bid opportunities
  • Work closely with head office and senior stakeholders to ensure accurate forecasting
  • Understand customer operational challenges and present compelling, practical solutions
  • Maintain accurate reporting in line with company expectations

The benefits for you

  • Uncapped commission - Realistic average OTE £90,000
  • 33 Days annual leave (inclusive of statutory)
  • Company Car
  • Salary Sacrifice pension
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity and adoption leave & pay
  • Employee Assistance Program
  • OnDemand GP and face to face counselling sessions
  • Online health advice portal
  • Benefits portal including retail, leisure, and holiday discounts
  • Dedicated training and development to support your career with our business
