About the Role

As Portfolio Manager, you will take ownership of a live loan book of circa 20–25 development finance facilities, spanning ground-up developments, refurbishments, conversions, and a small number of developer exit loans. You will manage each loan from completion through to redemption, acting as the key point of contact for borrowers, surveyors, and internal stakeholders. This is a highly visible, front-facing role requiring strong commercial judgement, attention to detail, and the confidence to challenge where required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full lifecycle management of development finance loans from completion through to redemption
  • Ongoing monitoring of loan performance, including reviewing drawdowns, budgets, and timelines
  • Interpreting and challenging IMS reports, identifying risks and ensuring appropriate action is taken
  • Conducting regular site visits (typically quarterly per scheme) across the South of England
  • Building and maintaining strong borrower relationships, acting as a trusted partner
  • Liaising with internal underwriting and credit teams to ensure alignment on risk and performance
  • Identifying and escalating potential issues early, with clear and proactive mitigation strategies
  • Producing accurate and timely portfolio reporting

  • Proven experience in development finance portfolio management, or a strong underwriter ready to transition
  • Deep understanding of development finance deals, including key risk points and structuring considerations
  • Confident reviewing and challenging monitoring surveyor reports
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify red flags early
  • Excellent communication and client-facing skills
  • Ability to work autonomously, manage multiple loans, and prioritise effectively
  • Experience dealing directly with borrowers and maintaining professional relationships
  • Willingness to travel for site visits as required
