About the Head of Credit Role

As Head of Credit, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping and governing the organisation’s lending policies and credit decisions. Reporting directly to the Directors, you’ll oversee the Credit Committee and ensure every loan meets the highest standards of suitability and compliance. You’ll manage complex cases, provide expert guidance to underwriters, and maintain key relationships with solicitors, surveyors, and external stakeholders.

Head Of Credit Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain, review, and enhance the organisation’s Lending Policy to align with business objectives.
  • Review and approve new loans, ensuring underwriting and legal standards are met.
  • Coordinate and chair Credit Committee meetings, documenting outcomes and driving timely execution of actions.
  • Manage solicitor and surveyor panels and serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory enquiries.
  • Analyse credit risks and trends by interpreting market and economic data.
  • Foster a culture of compliance, ensuring adherence to AML measures and regulatory standards.
  • Provide guidance and training to underwriters to ensure excellence in credit assessments.
  • Work closely with auditors and senior management to support business goals and mitigate risks.

Experience and Skills Required:

  • Minimum of 5 years in a senior bridging or mortgage underwriting role.
  • Extensive experience in manual short-term underwriting, including residential and buy-to-let (BTL) bridging lending.
  • Knowledge of Development Finance and commercial lending is advantageous.
