The Business Development Director plays a pivotal role in driving the growth of the company’s insurance income by identifying and securing new business opportunities.

Working closely with the Large Corporate & Real Estate Teams as well as wider Group specialisms.

This individual will be proactively seeking and converting new leads into valuable long-term clients.

This is a client-facing, target-driven position that requires strategic thinking, strong communication, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

The ideal candidate will bring energy, initiative, and commercial insight to help the company meet and exceed its fiscal new business targets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Business Development & Sales
  • Generate, develop, and secure new business opportunities for the Corporate Insurance Team.
  • Build and maintain a New Business Pipeline and Prospect Plan to support the achievement of new business objectives.
  • Identify and respond to market opportunities to grow the company’s insurance income.
  • Engage proactively with prospective clients using existing and bespoke marketing materials.
  • Liaise directly with the Marketing Team to build campaign plans for target markets and seasonality.
  • Maximise sales tools for prospecting and identifying new opportunities, such as Fullcircl and Acturis.
  • Meet or exceed personal business production targets as agreed with your Manager
  • Client Relationship Management
  • Build and nurture relationships with prospective clients, key influencers, and suppliers.
  • Accurately assess client needs and provide suitable product recommendations in line with regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Handle client matters professionally, ensuring fairness, transparency, and resolution of any issues or complaints through the appropriate channels.
  • Represent the Group’s full range of services to prospective clients.
  • Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support
  • Work collaboratively with Group colleagues and specialist teams to support cross-functional business initiatives.
  • Work in tandem with the UK Retail Leadership team to identify and capitalise on mutual business development opportunities.
  • Maintain effective internal communication with your Manager, escalating issues or out-of-scope matters promptly.
  • Compliance, Knowledge & Professional Development
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of market trends, legal developments, and technical expertise.
  • Ensure compliance with industry regulations, company procedures, and best practice standards.
  • Undertake training and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in line with business and personal objectives.

Essential

  • Proven experience in a business development, sales, client-facing role, ideally within insurance or financial services.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed business growth targets.
  • Strong commercial acumen and understanding of B2B & B2C client dynamics.
  • Excellent communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks and client fairness principles.
  • Intermediate IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet applications.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Access and data protection principles.

Desirable

  • Experience working in a regulated environment or corporate insurance setting
  • Understanding of cross-selling financial and insurance services.
