A rapidly expanding organisation within the life sciences sector is looking for an experienced
Management Accountant to join the team on a part‑time basis (around 21 hours per week) .
This is an opportunity to play a key role in a scaling business, working closely with senior leadership and supporting the wider finance function across the group.
The role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, ownership, and the ability to influence financial processes in a smaller, collaborative environment.
The Role
We are seeking someone with solid, hands-on accounting experience who is confident preparing monthly management accounts independently.
You’ll take responsibility for day‑to‑day finance operations while also producing high‑quality monthly reporting, reconciliations, and insightful financial analysis to support decision‑making.
As part of a small but growing company, the position suits a proactive individual who is comfortable working autonomously, improving systems and processes, and contributing to the development of scalable finance practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Management Accounts & Reporting
- Produce monthly management accounts including P&L, balance sheet and commentary
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations and investigate anomalies
- Monitor performance against budgets and prepare variance analysis
- Support annual budgeting and forecasting
- Provide monthly financial insights to senior management
- Day-to-Day Finance Operations
- Manage purchase and sales ledger processes
- Process supplier invoices and employee expenses
- Prepare customer invoices and handle account queries
- Complete bank reconciliations
- Prepare BACS payments and maintain payment schedules
- Process payroll, HMRC returns and pension contributions
- Compile data for R&D tax credit submissions
- Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns
Experience & Qualifications
- AAT Level 4 qualified or working towards ACCA/CIMA/ACA (or equivalent experience)
- Recent experience preparing full monthly management accounts independently
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and reporting standards
- Confident using Sage 50 or similar accounting software
- Comfortable managing finance processes within a small-business environment
- Excellent attention to detail
- Experience in a fast‑growing SME
