We provide the world’s preeminent corporations and financial institutions with a full business law service. At Norton Rose Fulbright, our strategy and our culture are closely entwined. Our Newcastle office is recruiting for a Legal Technologist to join our technology capability within the Innovation, Design and Technology (IDT) team.

About the Role

This role sits within the Legal Technology group, part of the IDT team, and is based in our Newcastle office. You will report directly to the Legal Technology Manager. The team plays a key role in supporting lawyers across the EMEAPAC region in the adoption and optimisation of legal technology, enabling more efficient, data-driven, and client‑centered delivery of legal services. You will contribute to the enhancement of the firm’s legal technology offering (including generative AI), support improvements in the way our lawyers work, and assist in delivering innovation initiatives aligned with our wider transformation programme.

About the Team

The IDT team forms part of the firm’s broader legal transformation function and works across the EMEAPAC region. The team collaborates closely with the Legal Project Management team (LPM), the Legal Services team (LST) in Newcastle, the Digital Solutions team (DS), IT and the Knowledge Management team (KM). The legal transformation function aims to enhance the lawyer experience, improve client outcomes, and strengthen financial performance by identifying opportunities to use technology, new delivery models, and improved ways of working.

About You

You have experience delivering complex legal transformation projects within a law firm. You have strong technical aptitude and are confident supporting the development, implementation and responsible use of technology and solutions, including AI tools. You communicate clearly, translate technical concepts into practical guidance, and build effective working relationships across teams. You take initiative, remain resilient in fast-moving environments, and bring a continuous improvement mindset, always looking for opportunities to enhance legal work through technology, data, and better processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technology Adoption and Engagement
    • Drive engagement and adoption of the firm’s legal technology and AI tools across practice groups and regions.
    • Deliver tailored demonstrations, communications and training to support effective use of technology.
    • Act as a primary point of contact for technology, workflow and user guidance queries.
    • Track and analyse usage data, performance indicators, and qualitative feedback across the legal tech stack, producing clear insights and recommendations to inform continuous improvement, adoption strategies, and technology roadmap decisions.
    • In partnership with senior colleagues, take responsibility for guiding and executing the technology roadmaps.
  • Process, Workflow, and Data
    • Proactively drive the improvement of legal processes and workflows through appropriate use of technology.
    • Work closely with lawyers, innovation leads and project teams to understand user needs and proactively identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce administrative effort and support consistent delivery.
    • Lead on testing, validation and user acceptance of new workflows or technology features.
  • Technical Support and Administration
    • Serve as a subject matter expert for the firm’s legal technology stack, maintaining a deep understanding of current tools, emerging capabilities, integrations, and best‑practice use.
    • Provide hands-on support for the legal technology toolkit, including troubleshooting, configuration, and coordination with the relevant platform owners.
    • Maintain appropriate governance, documentation and records for technology assets and processes.
    • Create and refine legal tech solutions to legal team requirements - from prototypes to final builds - ensuring they meet best‑in‑class standards.
  • Training and Knowledge Sharing
    • Deliver training sessions, workshops and one-to-one support for lawyers and internal teams.
    • Contribute to the development of internal materials, guidance notes and learning content.
    • Help raise awareness of developments in legal technology, AI and emerging technology tools.
    • Champion IDT and our innovation offerings by engaging with internal and external audiences to showcase our capabilities and the value we deliver to clients.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Proficiency in a variety of industry standard technology platforms and applications e.g. Thomson Reuters and Litera products intended to streamline legal processes and increase lawyer and legal support teams’ efficiency.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary teams and with senior stakeholders.
  • Native or fluent in English, with other languages as relevant for the region a nice to have.
  • Experience in complex transformation project delivery, technology adoption and stakeholder management.
  • Experience in a client-facing role, with the ability to understand client needs, manage client relationships, and deliver innovative solutions that enhance client satisfaction.
  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a law firm, legal services team, or professional services environment.
  • Demonstrated involvement with legal technology tools, AI-enabled platforms, or process improvement initiatives.
  • Strong written and verbal communication.
