Your workstyle will be a mobile hybrid worker in this role which gives you the flexibility to work from home and from a variety of Council workplaces.

We are currently seeking a motivated, enthusiastic, well-organised individual, who wants to help young people make a change and achieve their full potential to join our team as a Youth and Community Worker. The successful candidate will be responsible for the operational delivery of the Youth Engagement and Progression programme which is focused on providing young person-centred support for individuals aged 15+ identified as NEET or at risk of becoming NEET.

Providing interventions, activities and opportunities with the right level of challenge and support to help them make genuine progress to enter appropriate and sustainable education, training and/or employment. As a Youth & Community Worker you will provide support for NEET or at risk of NEET young people aged 15+ to enter or sustain education, training and/or employment.

You will provide a variety of projects, courses and one-to-one work support to remove individual barriers the young people are facing and improve their well-being to successfully access and maintain employment, education and/or training. This will be achieved by using a variety of youth work interventions and signposting to specialist agencies and organisations.

You should also be able to develop and maintain key relationships with other agencies; possess excellent communication and organisational skills; be proactive and be able to work under your own initiative as well as part of a team.

As a Youth and Community Worker using Youth Work techniques you will support and engage with a caseload of young people aged 15+, some of whom are furthest away from the labour market, to tackle barriers that are preventing them from engaging, accessing or sustaining employment, education or training. Support provided will help reduce their barriers to explore opportunities to enter education, training and/or employment and decrease the number of NEET young people within NPT.

About you:

  • Experience of working with and supporting young people who are NEET/at risk of becoming NEET.
  • Knowledge of Youth Work practice and methods and ability to apply these to work with young people.
  • To identify and remove the barriers to engaging in education, training and employment by direct intervention, by developing support mechanisms and, when necessary, by referring the individual learner to specialists for help.
  • Facilitate young people’s participation by identifying and responding to their needs and ensuring an appropriate flow of accurate and useful information to all relevant stakeholders (young person, co-workers, parent/carer, school, training provider, other agencies, line manager).
  • Experience in devising and delivering sessions to young people and small groups.
  • Ability to work independently with young people and manage a caseload.
  • A minimum of 4 GCE/GCSEs (Grades A-C) or equivalent, which should include English Language.
  • Nationally Recognised Qualification in Youth and Community Work or equivalent.
  • EWC membership.
