We are currently seeking an experienced and proactive individual to join our team as a Senior Trading Standards Officer within the Planning & Public Protection service, Environment & Regeneration Directorate. Our Trading Standards team plays a key role in protecting consumers and supporting businesses across Neath Port Talbot. The Retail & Industrial team delivers a wide range of regulatory functions including food standards, feed hygiene, product safety, animal health, petroleum enforcement, and legal metrology.
As a Senior Trading Standards Officer, you will lead the Retail & Industrial section and play an active role in the management of the service, supervising staff and ensuring high-quality enforcement and compliance activity.
Your daily routine:
- Managing and supervising the Retail & Industrial team, including allocation of work and performance monitoring
- Leading complex investigations and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and enforcement policy
- Carrying out inspections of commercial premises and overseeing enforcement activity
- Reviewing officer reports to ensure legal compliance and evidential robustness
- Coordinating sampling programmes and contributing to intelligence-led enforcement
- Contributing to service planning, performance reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives
About you:
- Extensive experience working within a Trading Standards service
- Strong knowledge of trading standards and investigative legislation (including PACE and CPIA)
- Professional qualification such as the Diploma in Trading Standards (or equivalent) and qualification as a Weights & Measures Inspector
- Experience of managing investigations and working within a criminal enforcement environment
- Experience of supervising, mentoring, or leading staff
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and complex workloads
