We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team as a Consultant Social Worker & AMHP Lead to lead advanced social work practice, provide specialist MHA expertise, and oversee the delivery and governance of the AMHP service.
Responsibilities:
- Provide advanced consultation on MHA/MCA, safeguarding, risk, and complex cases.
- Lead reflective practice, complex case reviews and debriefs.
- Support professional development, supervision and capability building.
- Contribute to service redesign and shape the strategic direction of social work within CMHTs.
- Oversee, coordinate and ensure safe delivery of the AMHP rota.
- Screen and prioritise MHA requests, and provide senior escalation and decision support.
- Ensure statutory compliance, high‑quality legal documentation and governance oversight.
- Chair AMHP forums, lead training and oversee AMHP recruitment, authorisation and re‑approval cycles.
- Maintain strong partnerships with crisis services, inpatient settings, police and MDT partners.
Location: The post is across both the North Community Mental Health Team (Tonna) and the South CMHT (Forge centre).

Qualifications and experience:
- A Social Work qualification and registration with Social Care Wales.
- AMPH qualification and substantial post‑qualifying experience in mental health.
- Strong legal literacy (MHA, MCA, SSWBA, Human Rights).
- Ability to lead, influence and support staff at all levels.
- Experience in complex casework, MHA assessments, safeguarding and MDT collaboration.
