As such, we are focused on meeting our statutory duties under the Welsh Language Standards and promoting the use of Welsh across our workforce and local communities.
We are currently seeking an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Corporate Policy Officer (Welsh Language) to join our Policy, Governance & Performance Team. This is an exciting opportunity to lead and support a wide range of work that helps the council meet its Welsh language duties, strengthen bilingual service delivery and promote the Welsh language both within the organisation and across the county borough.
The main duties of the post include:
- Managing the council’s Welsh Language Translation Support Function and ensuring high-quality, timely and audience-appropriate translation and interpretation services.
- Providing advice and guidance on the Welsh Language Standards and related legislation to council staff, elected Members and key stakeholders.
- Supporting the development, publication, implementation and monitoring of the Welsh Language Promotion Strategy and Welsh Language Standards Annual Reports.
- Helping to embed Welsh language considerations within decision-making, reporting and Integrated Impact Assessment processes.
- Developing and delivering briefings, presentations, training and awareness-raising activity relating to Welsh language duties and good practice.
- Building effective partnerships with internal teams, external organisations and community partners to promote and support the Welsh language agenda.
- Collating and analysing information to inform reports, returns and responses to the Welsh Language Commissioner and other relevant bodies.
About you: You will have substantial experience of working at a strategic level within a corporate Welsh language function, with a strong understanding of the Welsh Language Standards and relevant legislation. You will be confident in providing advice and guidance to senior officers, elected Members and colleagues across a large organisation, and able to present complex information clearly for different audiences. You will also have experience of preparing strategic plans and policies, developing awareness materials, running promotional events and working effectively with a range of internal and external partners. Welsh language skills are essential for this post, and you must be able to communicate effectively in Welsh and English.
