Do you have experience of working with young people and a passion to support them to live good lives? Can you manage and develop a range of Youth Work interventions and provide high quality support to young people at risk of/or have experienced youth homelessness? If the answer is yes then we want you to join Neath Port Talbot Council as a Youth and Community Worker.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing Youth Work support that is holistic, person centred, trauma informed, and needs led for young people aged 11 – 25 years old who are at risk of homelessness in Neath Port Talbot.
- Providing a range of preventative support to young people up to the age of 18 years old who are at risk of experiencing youth homelessness with the aim of preventing an occurrence of homelessness.
- Working with families/carers to strengthen relationships, communication and reduce conflict with the aim of supporting young people to remain at home wherever possible.
- Developing a range of awareness raising resources/sessions for young people and professionals in relation to preventing youth homelessness.
- Maintaining a caseload and ensuring satisfactory outcomes for young people by direct intervention, by developing support mechanisms and, when necessary, by referring the individual to specialists for help.
- Ensuring that robust and accurate record keeping is embedded within the project, ensuring all evidence and paperwork meets Youth Service and funding requirements.
- Working collaboratively with a range of organisations and partners to contribute to the aims and objectives of relevant national, regional and local priorities.
- Ensuring the delivery of high-quality youth work by following and implementing the service’s quality assurance procedures incorporating the following documentation: project proposals, session records and contact logs, registration and evaluation forms.
- Working flexible working patterns, including evenings and weekend work as required.
- Attending an annual appraisal and additional supervision when necessary.
- Attending and contributing to meetings as required.
- Assisting in the collection of appropriate monitoring information and providing managers and funders with regular verbal and written updates.
- Undertaking continual professional development accessing internal and external training opportunities where appropriate.
- Ensuring that the Corporate Health and Safety Policy is adhered to and that suitable action is taken regarding any issues or hazards, including the risk assessment of activities, equipment and premises and reporting of accidents/incidents.
- Informing line management of any concerns which may result in the implementation of Local Authority policies, such as child protection/safeguarding, grievances, complaints or disciplinary.
- Actively promoting equality of opportunity and diversity in all aspects of service delivery in accordance with Local Authority policies and procedures on equal opportunities, ensuring services meet the needs of disadvantaged and minority groups, whilst challenging any attitudes or behaviour that are contrary to it.
- Carrying out other relevant associated duties as may arise from time to time in full accordance with the authorities’ policies and procedures.
You will have experience of:
- Working with young people aged 11 – 25 years old in a non-formal/informal setting.
- Planning and delivering 1-1 sessions and group work activities.
- Supporting young people through partnership working with other key professionals.
Ideally you will have experience of:
- Working with families as part of the support for young people.
- Supporting young people to develop a range of life skills to enable them to thrive as young adults.
Ideally you will have:
- The relevant national youth work qualification required for registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC).
- Although it is essential to have a national youth work qualification to apply for this post, if you do not have one, we will consider applicants who are prepared to achieve the appropriate nationally recognised Youth Work Qualification within 2 years of being appointed into the role.
- Registration with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) before employment commences is mandatory.
