It is an exciting time in Neath Port Talbot (NPT) Children’s Services as we have recently restructured some of our services to better support the children, young people and families that we work with. As a result, we are currently looking for four Contact/Family Workers to join our Child Care Disability Team.
In NPT we believe in taking a strengths-based approach with our families, and value the importance of preventative work in order to support families through some of the most challenging of times. The role of the Contact/Family Worker will be critical as we move forward with this model of working.
Staff wellbeing is a priority in NPT and we endeavour to promote this constantly. The successful applicants will join our Child Care Disability Team and have access to established management structure of a Team Manager, Deputy Team Managers and Consultant Social Workers; regular supervision (at a minimum of every 28 days); flexible working arrangements, such as compressed hours; and access to training for ongoing learning and development opportunities. Neath Port Talbot Children’s Services has one of the lowest caseloads across Wales, allowing staff the capacity to provide a high quality support whilst also having a healthy work life balance.
As part of the role, Contact/Family Workers will provide high-quality support within a dynamic and busy children with disabilities team. Tasks include:
- Taking telephone calls
- Transporting children and their families
- Direct work with children
- Supporting children to spend time with extended family members
- Supporting routines within the home environment
- Supporting the case management role
- Keeping up to date recordings
- Engaging in multidisciplinary meetings
- Feeding into outcomes planning for children and young people
- Liaising with multi-agency partners for this purpose
The successful applicant will need to work flexible hours to support the identified needs of the children and families that we work with. The role will be governed in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures and best practice.
The contract will initially be for a 24-month period, however, there will be scope to review the impact the role is having on our service with a view to offer an extension.
The post requires a minimum of 4 GCSEs grade C or above, one of which must be English or Welsh plus Mathematics, or equivalent. Experience of direct work with children with disabilities and families is a desired skillset for this role.
The Local Authority strives to recognise staff contribution by means of annual recognition awards and an annual staff conference which celebrates the successes and promotes outstanding practice.
