We are currently seeking a committed, enthusiastic and organised individual to join our team as a Support & Accommodation Officer. The Emergency Accommodation Support Team sits within the wider Homelessness Assessment, Prevention, and Support Service (HAPSS). This service provides support to all households placed into emergency accommodation.

As a Support and Accommodation Officer, you will work as an integral part of our team in supporting households as they navigate their homelessness – through tailored, person‑centred support delivered with empathy and compassion. You will do this through providing appropriate, accurate and timely support, advice, information, and assistance. You will work to identify support needs, and address barriers to successfully enable households to move on and secure suitable alternative accommodation. You will be part of a dynamic team of staff, who have a host of experience, skills, and knowledge, and work in partnership with a wide range of internal and external services to provide relevant support to our service users.

The work is fast paced, varied, and rewarding. In a challenging and reactive service, you will be trusted to use your initiative while being supported through regular supervision and strong team working.

Daily Routine and Responsibilities

  • Working directly with households placed into emergency accommodation, providing housing and tenancy related support through:
  • Development and implementation of Support Plans created through Support Needs and Risk Assessments.
  • Partnership working with key stakeholders such as housing and specialist support providers.
  • Maintaining accurate and timely case records in line with statutory and funded service requirements.
  • Working within the parameters of the Housing (Wales) Act, 2014 and Renting Homes Wales Act, 2016, ensuring all statutory obligations are met.

About You – Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience of delivering a front-line homelessness or housing-related service with a working knowledge of homelessness legislation and good practice.
  • Experience of working in a multi-agency environment, with an understanding of partner agency roles.
  • Knowledge of issues and problems encountered by homeless households and an understanding of how to overcome those problems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage your own workload effectively.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with good numeracy and IT skills.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing demands and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • You will also hold a minimum of 4 GCSEs at Grade A–C (or equivalent).

Benefits

  • Hybrid working (in some roles) and flexible working schemes to improve your work life balance.
  • Benefit from a competitive employee package with a notable 15.3% employer pension contribution.
  • Enjoy a holiday entitlement of 25 days, increasing to 32 days after 5 years’ service (plus the additional 8 bank holidays).
