We are currently looking for an Occupational Health Nurse to join our forward‑thinking Nurse led team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering an Occupational Health and Wellbeing service for the employees of Neath Port Talbot Council. You will work with and support the Occupational Health Nurse Manager in providing a nurse‑led Occupational Health and Wellbeing service throughout the Authority. You will provide clinical expertise within the Occupational Health Unit, working as part of a team in the coordination, provision, and delivery of an effective, high‑quality Occupational Health service, by monitoring the health of the workforce through statutory health surveillance, sickness absence, and fitness for work advice. You will also provide advice and guidance to staff to manage their health and wellbeing and that of others.

The main duties of the post:

  • Assist the Occupational Health Nurse Manager in developing and providing a competent, efficient, effective, and professional health and wellbeing service across the council.
  • Organise and carry out statutory health surveillance assessments.
  • Conduct safety‑critical medical assessments.
  • Participate in the triage of Occupational Health referrals.
  • Undertake first step sickness absence consultations.
  • Promote healthy lifestyles and provide advice and health information to employees of the council.
  • Assist in the provision of health programmes that support the physical and mental health and wellbeing of employees.
  • Ensure the management of occupational health records and health surveillance records are kept in compliance with statutory legislation.
  • Provide advice and guidance on all aspects of work relating to ill health and contribute to the development of occupational health policies.
  • Maintain all aspects of professional development in accordance with the requirements of Nursing and Midwifery Council Revalidation.

You will have experience in:

  • 3 years post qualification experience in Occupational Health or relevant specialist field of nursing.
  • Competent in implementing and undertaking health surveillance/medical assessment programmes.
  • Knowledge of the role of the Occupational Health Nurse.
  • Knowledge of work‑related health issues.
  • Knowledge of legal aspects of Occupational Health.
  • Knowledge and drive to improve health and wellbeing for employees.
  • Experience of working with colleagues outside the nursing team.
  • Strong team player with good communication skills.
  • Able to work autonomously.
  • Experience in providing guidance in relation to sickness absence.
  • Well‑developed oral, written, and IT skills.
  • Commitment to clinical excellence.
  • A demonstrable commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Ideally, you will have:

  • Occupational Health qualification or willingness to work towards achieving one.
