Your workstyle will be a mobile hybrid worker in this role which gives you the flexibility to work from home and from a variety of Council workplaces.

About the role:

We are looking for a creative, organised and engaging Communications Officer to join our Countryside & Wildlife Team and help deliver the Lost Peatlands Connections project. Working across the Afan, Neath, Upper Cynon and Rhondda Fawr valleys, this ambitious partnership project will restore and celebrate the landscape, connecting communities with the area’s natural, cultural and historic heritage.

This is an exciting opportunity to help tell the story of Lost Peatlands Connections and bring the project to life for a wide range of audiences. You will create engaging and accessible content across social media, websites and other channels, helping translate topics such as peatland restoration, nature recovery, climate resilience and cultural heritage into clear and compelling public communications.

As the Lost Peatlands Connections Communications Officer, you will lead the day-to-day delivery of project communications, marketing and publicity, working closely with the project team, partners and stakeholders. Alongside communications, you will support project events, partnership working, administration and monitoring to help keep this complex, multi-partner project running effectively.

Your daily routine will include tasks such as:

  • Creating and publishing engaging social media, website and promotional content.
  • Developing accessible communications that turn technical environmental and heritage information into engaging public messages.
  • Coordinating communications with project partners and stakeholders.
  • Supporting the organisation, promotion and delivery of project events.
  • Creating campaign materials, photography, video and other digital content.
  • Monitoring communications and engagement activity and supporting project administration and record keeping.

About you:

Do you have:

  • Experience of producing accessible and engaging communications for different audiences and channels.
  • Excellent IT and digital skills, including the use of social media and spreadsheets.
  • Experience of supporting a multi-partner, programme or grant-funded project.
  • Experience of organising public, community or stakeholder events.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to turn complex or technical information into clear, engaging content for non-specialist audiences.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • A relevant Level 5/6 qualification in media, communications, administration, project management, marketing or a related subject, or demonstrable equivalent experience.

We would welcome those with experience in roles such as: Communications Officer, Marketing and Communications Officer, Digital Communications Officer, Project Communications Officer, Engagement Officer, or similar communications and project-based roles.

  • Benefit from a competitive employee package witha remarkable 15.3% employer pension contribution
  • Enjoy a holiday entitlement of 25 days, increasing to 32 days after 5 years’ service (not forgetting the additional 8 bank holidays too)
  • Access discounted gym membership with Celtic Leisure
  • Utilise the cycle to work scheme with up to 40% off bikes and cycling equipment
  • Purchase a new car through Tusker salary sacrifice scheme
