AI Engineer (Platform)

We are looking for an AI Engineer to join nPlan’s Engineering team.

We work with complex graph data (each with 10,000+ nodes), applying multiple ML and LLM approaches to understanding the data, extracting meaningful insights from it using a proprietary forecasting engine, and empowering deep human interactions – all of which must work efficiently and robustly in production. As a startup, we also keep agile in a fast-moving environment!

This is a new role, which will work closely with

• the team’s existing backend and frontend engineers (helping harden shared best practice for AI integrations),
• the adjacent nPlan Experimental Research Division (nERD), and its AI Engineer, particularly as the underlying technologies evolve over time,
• the Product organisation, making sure your new features are giving our customers what they want and need.

It is a remote-first role. We have a London office, and occasional travel will be required for company offsites and to collaborate with the rest of the team in person. If you are based in London, you can use the office as frequently as you like.

Summary

• Join our Engineering team, prototyping and productizing new AI features that change the way construction projects are managed via our product.

• Base salary of £70k-100k depending on experience, along with equity package.
• Flexible working hours & locations – so long as you can do our core hours of 11am-3pm (UK timezone), Mon-Fri, we’re happy.

What you’ll do in this role

• Prototype, implement and help support new applications of AI for the construction domain, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible.
• Build core infrastructure that allows us to build and ship LLM apps quickly – this includes observability, how we work with several LLM providers + our own fine tuned models.
• Work with other engineers in the product and research teams to bring new models and applications to production.
• Be a leader in best practices and implementing AI across the whole company, keeping up to date with latest advancements and how they impact nPlan.
• Ideate and implement new features and functionality, and maintain LLM pipelines for both real time inference and development.

About you

You love to build products in a fast-paced environment with a super high degree of autonomy

• You keep up to date with the latest developments in AI and love to experiment with new models
• You have shipped LLM and generative AI based applications to production
• You have experience with LLM evaluation and the development lifecycle of LLM features
• You are really comfortable working with Python and building APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI or Django
• Please mention the word ‘crane’ in your application.

Nice-to-haves:

• Familiarity with Python, Go, Typescript
• You have experience working with Google Cloud, and/or Kubernetes/Docker
