Senior / Principal Fire Risk Assessor
Senior: £55,000–£65,000 | Principal: £65,000–£80,000

Salaries are full-time equivalents, pro rata for part-time appointments.
NPG Fire Safety Ltd is looking for an experienced fire risk assessor to join our consultancy team at Senior or Principal level.
We offer a structured working week with dedicated time for report writing, ongoing professional development and opportunities to take on greater technical responsibility as the consultancy grows.
We’re based in the North West and welcome applications from further afield where regular site travel is practical. Overnight accommodation between consecutive site days could be provided by agreement.
The Role
A typical full-time week would include:
- Two days on site undertaking fire risk assessments.
- Two days working from home completing reports.
- One further day for more complex reports, outstanding work, technical review, CPD, mentoring or wider consultancy.
The number of assessments will reflect the size and complexity of the premises covered during the two site days. Workloads will also account for the technical responsibilities of the appointment.
Our reports must be technically sound, clearly written and easy for clients to follow. Recommendations should be practical and proportionate, explaining what action is needed and why. You’ll report to our Managing Director and Lead Consultant, Niall Graham. Technical review and validation form part of our quality assurance process under NPG’s BAFE SP205 certification.
Senior Fire Risk Assessor — £55,000–£65,000
You’ll be an experienced assessor capable of independently assessing a range of premises of low to medium complexity, identifying significant risks and producing consistently high-quality reports.
You’ll also mentor junior assessors, helping them develop their knowledge, judgement and reporting skills.
There will be opportunities to progress into more complex assessments and technical review as your experience and responsibilities develop.
Principal Fire Risk Assessor — £65,000–£80,000
You’ll already be operating at an Advanced level, with the experience and judgement to take on greater technical responsibility within the consultancy.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Fire risk assessments across a range of premises, from straightforward to complex.
- Technical review and validation.
- Mentoring developing assessors.
- Contributing to our technical standards and processes.
- Wider fire safety consultancy.
Experience preparing fire strategies or supporting building control submissions would be advantageous.
Appointment and salary within each band will reflect demonstrated competence, relevant experience and the responsibilities agreed.
What we’re looking for
You’ll need:
- Current registration on the National Fire Risk Assessors Register (NFRAR) at Intermediate or Advanced level.
- Working knowledge of BAFE SP205 (principal).
- A recognised Level 4 qualification in fire risk assessment, or equivalent competence mapped to BS 8674.
- Substantial experience independently undertaking fire risk assessments.
- Excellent report-writing and client communication skills.
- Sound, proportionate technical judgement and an understanding of the limits of your competence.
- A constructive approach to technical review, including explaining your reasoning, considering other perspectives and acting on well-founded feedback.
- A full driving licence valid for driving in the UK and the ability to undertake the required site travel.
