Prepare written documents or proposals using standard formats provided for customer submission.
Prepare complete controls engineering and controls build cost estimates in a format which correlates to the company's manufacturing process, for all related electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic logic, programming and design controls according to customer specifications.
Co-ordinate with lead mechanical proposal estimator to develop proposed system controls architecture templates.
Solicit component costs and maintain an updated database for component suppliers with related costs, working with SAP and Purchasing.
Be 100% qualified and understand the function of automated systems, all internal, external components including automation, robotic systems, assembly systems, and powertrain systems.
Assist in developing new products, existing product improvements, and standards in proposal and costing.
Co-ordinate with the engineering team, the company Project Managers, and outside design sources to ensure costs are maintained within estimated costs.
Attend customer line-up meetings as required and provide technical assistance to the sales team and internal project team.
Develop and train other personnel in becoming familiar with the controls and proposal estimating procedure for systems assigned.
Assist in technical presentations to customers.
Attend training sessions and seminars to keep on track technically and to update personnel development.
Maintain tracking system for all change ECNs or utilise CATS II as approved format.
Be able to travel out-of-country, if required.
Qualifications
- Extensive knowledge of Allen Bradley & Siemens PLC controls.
- Degree in applied technology, diploma in technical study or equivalent experience in related trade.
- Experience in the conception, cost estimation and formulation of written proposals for Controls relative to automated assembly systems.
- Excellent written and oral communications with the ability to successfully manage the customer relations function as it relates to the proposal process.
- Be able to communicate within a 'team based' work environment and interact well with fellow team members as well as with external customers.
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word software.
- Knowledge of design and manufacturing processes.
- Knowledge of PLC, electric and pneumatic controls, and robotics.
- Ability to read electric/pneumatic schematics.
