About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to lead the development of advanced electrical systems for next-generation armoured military vehicles. This role plays a key part in shaping the electrical architecture that supports mission-critical platforms—integrating technologies such as EMC, ECM/EECM protection, BOWMAN communication, situational awareness systems, and complex automotive sub-systems.
You’ll thrive here if you enjoy taking ownership, influencing design direction, and working closely with multidisciplinary teams to turn customer requirements into validated, field-ready solutions. If you’re passionate about delivering innovative, robust electrical systems that protect lives and support global defence operations, this could be the perfect role for you.
What you’ll get in return
- Performance rewards – discretionary bonus opportunities
- Flex your day – flexible start and finish times (subject to manager approval and operational needs)
- Time to recharge – 25 days’ holiday + 8 bank holidays, with the option to buy more through our Holiday Purchase Scheme
- Support for Defence – two weeks’ paid leave for Reservists and Cadets, plus paid leave for Cadet Force Adult Volunteers (CFAVs)
- Future security – competitive pension scheme (9% combined employer/employee contributions)
- Peace of mind – life cover at 3x base salary
- Health & wellbeing first – BHSF Cash Healthcare Plan to support everyday health costs
- Grow with us – career development and advancement opportunities within a global business
- Supportive environment – a team culture built on innovation, collaboration, and purpose
What you’ll be doing
In this role, you’ll lead the electrical design process from concept through to detailed design, ensuring systems meet customer requirements, regulatory standards, and operational needs. You’ll take ownership of creating specifications, presenting design options, and guiding solutions through the full design lifecycle.
You’ll work closely with engineers, project managers, production teams, and customers to translate requirements into validated and verified designs that support efficient manufacturing and through-life support. You’ll also be a key customer-facing engineer, able to communicate technical detail with clarity and confidence.
Your work will span prototype development, test definition, engineering change control, and supporting the legacy fleet. You’ll play a critical part in ensuring NP Aerospace continues to deliver safe, robust, and innovative solutions across current and future vehicle programmes.
What we’re looking for
We’re looking for someone who brings strong technical expertise, systems thinking, and a collaborative mindset. You’ll ideally have:
- A proven track record delivering electrical design projects from concept to launch within defence or automotive sectors
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a design office using 3D CAD (Creo 9.0 preferred)
- Experience using PLM software (Windchill 12.0 preferred)
- Strong understanding of electrical schematics and cable/harness design to BS8888
- Familiarity with armoured vehicle electrical subsystems such as EMC, ECM/EECM, BOWMAN and situational awareness systems
- Knowledge of configuration control and change management (Def Stan 05-57)
- Experience in validation and verification of products, including environmental requirements
- Experience producing Design FMEAs and applying robust engineering practices
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with internal and external stakeholders
- Proficiency in MS Office
Bonus points if you have:
- Military vehicle or subsystem design experience
- Experience managing product lifecycle and supply chain interaction
- SolidWorks or Arcadia experience
- Creo cabling module proficiency
- Experience working with the UK MoD or involvement in complex bid submissions
- Existing SC clearance
