We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Wakefield, working as a Cover Teacher on an ad-hoc basis. The role is to provide essential teaching cover for a variety of curriculum areas to cover sickness.

Site Information

HMP Wakefield is a Category A high-security prison for adult men, located in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Established in 1594 as a house of correction, it is one of the oldest operating prisons in England and Wales. The site forms part of the long-term high-security estate and houses individuals convicted of serious offences. It has a capacity of around 750 prisoners, with a current population of approximately 630, including about 148 Category A inmates.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Achievement of quality and performance targets
  • Accurate and timely completion of documents
  • Positive team working
  • Effective communication & inter-personal skills
