We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Frankland, working as an Industrial Cleaning Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent, part-time basis, working 18.5 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Frankland is a Category A men\’s prison located in the village of Brasside in County Durham, England. Frankland is operated by His Majesty\’s Prison Service, and is located next to HM Prison Low Newton, a closed women\’s prison. Though traditionally holding men serving more than four years, since 2005 Frankland has also taken category A remand prisoners. In 2019, it was designated as a prison with a training function.

Role Responsibilities

In this role, you will work with, and be supported by, our amazing team of dedicated professionals to mentor our learners and help them to secure future employment opportunities post-release. You will need patience, passion, flexibility and understanding in your approach to our learners, who have ‘hit a bump in the road’ but want to learn and improve.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification – with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months.
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have a good previous track record of achieving quality targets
  • Have willingness to engage with and produce accurate and timely reports
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have an ability to motivate and enthuse learners in the subject matter
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines/targets
  • Advocate for and engage consistently in positive team working
  • Track record of effective teaching in delivery of one or more subject areas (Desirable)
  • Track record of working effectively with people presenting with challenging behaviour (Desirable)
