We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Oakwood, working as an Information, Advice, Guidance and Mentoring Teacher. This role is offered on a permanent full-time basis, working 37 hours per week.

Site Information

HMP Oakwood is a Category C men’s prison located in Featherstone, Staffordshire. It is one of the largest and most modern prisons in the United Kingdom. The team’s aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison’s mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Hold a teaching qualification and where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification – with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy
  • Hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)/ Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) or commit to work towards within a specified timeframe (Applies to Teachers in YOI only)
  • Create stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • To achieved of quality targets
  • Produce accurate and timely reports
  • To have effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • To have the ability to motivate and enthuse learners
