Job description Are you passionate about helping learners build the digital skills they need for everyday life, further study and future employment? We're looking for an enthusiastic Digital Functional Skills Teacher to join Novus at HMP Stoke Heath on a part-time job share basis on Friday mornings. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference within prison education, supporting learners to grow in confidence, develop practical digital skills and take positive steps towards their future.

We have a great opportunity to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Stoke Heath, working as a Digital Functional Skills Teacher. This permanent, part-time role is for4 hours per week on Friday mornings, supportingthe delivery of aDigital Functional Skills course already taughtMonday to Thursday by an establishedteacher. You will work collaboratively to ensure continuity, consistency and a high-quality learning experience for learners across the full week.

Site Information

HMP Stoke Heath, located near Market Drayton in Shropshire, is a Category C prison that houses adult male offenders and young adults. The teams' aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison's mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.

Role Responsibilities

In this role, you will work with, and be supported by, our amazing team of dedicated professionals to mentor our learners and help them to secure future employment opportunities post-release. You will need patience, passion, flexibility and understanding in your approach to our learners, who have 'hit a bump in the road' but want to learn and improve.

Skills, Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

  • Support the established Digital Functional Skills Teacher by delivering the course on Friday mornings.
  • Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months.
  • Hold a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy.
  • Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners
  • Have a good previous track record of achieving quality targets and working effectively as a team
  • Have willingness to engage with and produce accurate and timely reports
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Have an ability to motivate and enthuse learners in the subject matter
  • Demonstrate good organisational skills to prioritise workload and meet deadlines/targets
