We have a great opportunity to join our education team as a ‘Cover Trainer’ for Novus, the prison education provider working across the North-East region which are HMYOI Deerbolt, HMP Durham, HMP Holme House, HMP Kirklevington Grange & HMP Northumberland. Specialising in one of more of the subject areas listed below; Painting &Decorating Fitted Interiors Catering and Hospitality Construction Skills – Bricks, plumbing, tiling, electrical Barbering PMO – Performing Manufacturing operations. Horticulture JoineryThis role is offered on a sessional basis, working ad hoc hours per week. What the role entails In this role, you will work with, and be supported by, our amazing team of dedicated professionals to mentor our learners to develop their English reading, writing, speaking, and listening, as well as their numeracy skills which will in turn help them to secure future employment opportunities post-release. You will need patience, passion and understanding in your approach to our learners who have ‘hit a bump in the road’ but want to learn and improve. Working in a prison is different to a mainstream education facility. We operate with security at the forefront of what we do, so our class sizes are small to maximise supportive delivery. Our security team are on hand to ensure the lessons run smoothly. We always try to cater to a learner’s individual needs and ensure we create a positive learner experience. Time will be given to planning and your Local Education Manager is always on hand to provide support as and when needed. Delivery happens between Monday and Friday and weekends are strictly for rest and relaxation. What we need from you To be successful in the role of Cover Trainer, you will need: A teaching qualification or subject specialist qualification at Level 4 (Level 5 – new standards) or have a commitment to obtain a teaching qualification within a specified time scale (required) Assessor’s award or have a commitment to obtain a teaching qualification within a specified time scale (required) Hold at least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy Track record of effective teaching in subject specialismIdeally, you will want to be a part of a team which has at its core a focus on improving lives and enabling and equipping learners to develop, grow and be equipped for a life of work and success.
