We are seeking a highly motivated and technically proficient NGS Service Lab Supervisor to support lead our high-throughput Next‑Generation Sequencing (NGS) service laboratory. This critical role requires a strong focus on meeting strict Turnaround Times (TAT), exceptional technical troubleshooting skills, and the ability to manage demanding client communication effectively. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, data‑driven leader fluent in both English and Mandarin, committed to driving operational excellence and world‑class customer service. This position will be based on our Cambridge site on daily basis.

Responsibilities

• Supervises and motivates Lab Technicians and ensures the timely completion of day‑to‑day tasks.
• Communicates and enforces laboratory safety rules to internal and external researchers working in the lab.
• Monitors on‑going performance of employees; provides corrective action and counseling as required.
• Responsible for training, coaching, supervision, and development of Team Members. Ensures they understand and perform their job duties.
• Participates in the interview, selection, and hiring of new employees.
• Manages inventory monitoring and supplies acquisition. Ensures all reagents and supplies are available when needed.
• Monitors quality metrics in Sequencing platform daily to ensure QCD standards are met.
• Participates in process improvement or other initiatives to meet the annual goal set by HQ.
• Guides troubleshooting and solves issues with team members when they are unable to solve by themselves.
• Resolves emergencies and unexpected situations as needed.
• Facilitates and promotes inter‑team collaboration to balance the workload and needs of everyone.
• Coordinates with Commercial team, ensures timely delivery and appropriate resolution of issues.
• Develops and implements task prioritization strategies to ensure timely completion of lab projects, effective collaboration with commercial teams, and other tasks depending on priority levels.
• All other duties as assigned, within scope of the position.

Skills required

• Deep NGS Technical Competence: Extensive practical experience in Next‑Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies and molecular biology, including library preparation, sequencing platforms, and data quality assessment.
• Troubleshooting & Problem‑Solving: Proven ability to effectively troubleshoot complex technical and process issues encountered in a high‑throughput NGS service lab environment.
• Scientific Background: Master’s degree or higher in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, Medicine, or a closely related scientific field.
• Data‑Driven Focus: Strong analytical and data interpretation skills, using laboratory metrics and data to drive process improvements and optimise efficiency.
• Relevant Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of management or supervisory experience within a laboratory setting (commercial service lab experience is highly preferred).
• Bilingual Communication: Fluent in both Mandarin and English (written and oral) to facilitate seamless daily communication and coordination with Headquarters (HQ) and local teams/clients.
• Supervisory Skills: Strong leadership, planning, organization, and coordination skills necessary to manage a technical team and laboratory operations effectively.
• Professional Conduct: High degree of responsibility and proactiveness; the ability to own and drive projects from initiation to completion.
• Multi‑tasking: Excellent capacity for multi‑tasking and prioritizing competing high‑stakes activities in a fast‑paced environment.
