Ready to take ownership of Health & Safety across a busy construction portfolio? Novo People is partnering with an established construction business to recruit an experienced Health & Safety Manager. Reporting to the SHEQ Director, you will take a lead role in maintaining high safety standards across multiple projects, supporting operational teams and helping drive continuous improvement throughout the business. This isn't a role that sits behind a desk. You will be visible across sites, working closely with project teams, challenging standards where needed and providing practical advice that helps people work safely without slowing delivery down.
The Role
- Support the implementation of the company’s Health & Safety strategy across live projects and wider business operations.
- Manage a small team of H&S Advisors.
- Provide practical Health & Safety advice to managers and project teams.
- Support compliance with company procedures, management systems and legal requirements.
- Review Risk Assessments, Method Statements, COSHH assessments and other project documentation.
- Carry out site inspections, audits and compliance reviews.
- Monitor safety performance and produce management reports.
- Manage and support Health & Safety Advisors across project sites.
- Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Ensure corrective actions and lessons learned are communicated effectively.
- Deliver training, toolbox talks and safety briefings.
- Assess subcontractor and supply-chain Health & Safety competence.
- Support tender and pre-construction submissions.
- Maintain Health & Safety records, accreditations and ISO management-system requirements.
- Engage with clients, consultants, contractors and regulatory bodies.
A major part of the role will be helping create a consistent safety culture across the business—one where project teams take ownership and Health & Safety is treated as part of successful delivery, not simply a compliance exercise.
What We’re Looking For
You will be an experienced Health & Safety professional with a strong understanding of construction environments and the confidence to influence people at every level. You should be able to demonstrate:
- Previous Health & Safety experience within construction, civil engineering or a similar project-led environment.
- Strong knowledge of Health & Safety legislation and construction safety requirements.
- Experience carrying out inspections, audits and incident investigations.
- The ability to review RAMS and other project safety documentation.
- Strong leadership or people-management skills.
- The confidence to advise, influence and challenge managers and site teams.
- A practical and solutions-focused approach to risk management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organisation and time-management abilities.
- The ability to manage competing priorities across several projects.
You will need to be credible on site, comfortable speaking with senior management and capable of turning Health & Safety requirements into practical actions.
