Quality, Environmental & Safety Manager Belfast

Salary: Circa £50,000 flexibility for an exceptional candidate

Permanent

NOVO People is working with an established Belfast-based manufacturing business to recruit a Quality & HSE Manager to lead its Quality, Compliance and HSE function. Importantly, this isn't a 50/50 Quality and Safety role. Around 75% of your focus will be Quality and Compliance, with HSE accounting for approximately 25% of the position. That makes this particularly well suited to an experienced Quality Manager or Technical Manager from food or packaging who has some exposure to environmental and health & safety management.

You'll lead a team of four and take responsibility for maintaining the standards, systems and audit performance expected within a highly regulated manufacturing environment.

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and develop a Quality and Compliance team of four.
  • Take ownership of BRC certification, audit preparation and external audits.
  • Maintain, develop and continuously improve the Quality Management System.
  • Ensure continued compliance with relevant quality, environmental and industry standards.
  • Lead internal audit programmes and ensure corrective actions are completed effectively.
  • Manage non-conformances, root cause investigations and continuous improvement activity.
  • Work closely with Production and Operations to maintain strong quality standards on the factory floor.
  • Support customer, certification and regulatory audits.
  • Monitor Quality and Compliance KPIs and provide clear reporting to senior management.
  • Promote a strong quality culture throughout the manufacturing operation.
  • Provide oversight of the site's Health, Safety and Environmental requirements.
  • Support risk assessments, incident investigations and HSE improvement activity.
  • Maintain and support compliance with ISO 14001.
  • Support compliance with FSC and PEFC requirements.

What we're looking for

The key thing here is your industry background. We're looking for someone who understands the standards, audit pressures and day-to-day realities of working within a food, FMCG or packaging environment.

You could currently be working as a: Quality Manager | Technical Manager | Compliance Manager | QHSE Manager | QESH Manager | Quality & Compliance Manager

You'll ideally have:

  • Strong Quality Management experience gained within food, food packaging, packaging or a closely related regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on experience of BRC audits this is essential.
  • Experience maintaining and improving Quality Management Systems.
  • Good working knowledge of ISO 14001.
  • Experience of internal and external auditing.
  • Strong knowledge of corrective actions, root cause analysis and continuous improvement.
  • Previous experience managing, supervising or mentoring a Quality team.
  • The confidence to work closely with Production and Operations rather than managing Quality purely from behind a desk.
  • Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience of FSC and PEFC standards would be useful, although this doesn't necessarily need to be the strongest part of your background.
  • A relevant qualification within Quality, Food Science, Technical, Environmental, Health & Safety or Compliance would also be beneficial.

This is a senior, visible role where Quality genuinely sits at the centre of the job. It could be particularly well suited to someone currently working as a Quality Manager or Technical Manager within food manufacturing who would be open to moving into the packaging sector. You'll take ownership of an established function and team, while having plenty of opportunity to influence systems, standards and how Quality is embedded across the wider operation.
