NOVO People is supporting a well-established manufacturing company to recruit an HSE Officer who will work closely with the HSE Manager across a broad range of health, safety and environmental activities. Location: Co. Antrim (25 minutes from Belfast). This is a hands-on role with plenty of variety. You'll be involved in everything from risk assessments and incident investigations through to ISO systems, training, contractor control and continuous improvement.
What you'll be doing:
- Working alongside the HSE Manager to help ensure HSE standards are maintained and continually improved across the business.
- Supporting delivery of the company’s HSE policies, objectives and improvement plans.
- Helping develop, maintain and communicate HSE documentation in line with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Leading and facilitating workplace risk assessments and ensuring actions are effectively followed through.
- Working with department managers to improve hazard identification, risk assessment and workplace monitoring.
- Supporting compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation, permits, consents and wider stakeholder requirements.
- Creating and delivering HSE inductions, awareness sessions and internal training.
- Supporting key operational controls including Permit to Work, LOTO, contractor management, CDM, COSHH and HAVS.
- Taking an active role in accident and incident investigations, including root cause identification and corrective actions.
- Acting as the H&S lead on individual investigations and cross-functional projects where required.
- Maintaining HSE records and document control systems.
- Contributing to 5S, continuous improvement and wider site improvement initiatives.
What we're looking for:
- You don't need to know everything on day one, but you should already have a strong HSE foundation and be comfortable operating in a practical working environment.
- Essential NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of previous experience in an HSE Officer, HSE Advisor or similar role.
- Good working knowledge of health and safety principles and risk management.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Good analytical, problem-solving and reporting ability.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Confident communication and presentation skills.
- Strong organisation and time management.
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of actions.
Ideally, you'll also have:
- A higher-level health and safety qualification, or be working towards one, such as a NEBOSH Diploma or relevant degree.
- An environmental qualification.
- Three or more years HSE experience.
- Experience developing or delivering HSE training.
- Practical experience of incident investigation and risk assessment.
- Experience working with ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 management systems.
