Your new role

As Associate Medical Director for Cardiovascular and Renal Medical Affairs, you will lead and deliver the UK medical strategy for these therapy areas, ensuring high-quality scientific engagement, evidence generation, and medical education that improves patient outcomes. As a first and second-line people manager, you will be accountable for driving the people agenda within your department – developing medical affairs talent, building succession plans, and creating an engaged, high-performing team. You will be a key member of the UK Medical Leadership Team, bringing both strategic vision and operational leadership to a growing function.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the development and execution of the UK Cardiovascular and Renal Medical Affairs strategy, jointly accountable with the Senior Director for aligning medical strategy to overall UK affiliate business objectives.
  • Serving as people manager, driving talent development, conducting regular talent discussions, building succession plans for key roles, and developing first-line leaders and high performers within the team.
  • Championing and driving cardiovascular and renal medical strategy across UK affiliate and regional leadership teams, deputising for the Senior Director in times of absence, and delivering strategic updates to the UK Leadership Team and above-country teams.
  • Leading integrated evidence planning in collaboration with cross-functional teams, including oversight of clinical trial support, Investigator Sponsored Studies, and publication strategy.
  • Ensuring compliance, high-quality KOL engagement, advisory board programmes, and scientific dialogue for pre-launch and launch phases in full compliance with ABPI, PMCPA, and MHRA requirements.
  • Partnering with healthcare systems and medical associations to develop solutions along clinical care pathways that support NHS objectives in cardiovascular and renal care while ensuring appropriate use of Novo Nordisk medicines.
  • Managing department budget, ensuring resource allocation delivers appropriate return on investment, and maintaining full oversight of medical governance including Materials Review and signatory processes.

Within International Operations, you will join the UK Medical & Regulatory function – a high-performing team at the centre of one of Novo Nordisk's most strategically important affiliates. The Cardiovascular and Renal Medical Affairs team operates at the intersection of clinical science, healthcare policy, and commercial strategy, playing a critical role in how our expanding portfolio reaches patients and healthcare professionals across the UK's complex NHS landscape.

Your skills & qualifications

We're looking for a senior medical leader with deep scientific credibility, strategic thinking, and proven experience leading large, diverse teams as a first and second line people manager. You'll bring with you:

  • MBChB, MD or Pharmacist or PhD, with significant cardiovascular and/or renal therapy area knowledge and strong scientific credibility.
  • Extensive pharmaceutical industry experience in Medical Affairs within complex markets, including senior leadership of large, diverse teams with experience managing people across different specialist disciplines.
  • Thorough knowledge of the ABPI Code of Practice (final medical signatory experience preferred), GCP, clinical trial methodology, drug development, and the publication process.
  • Proven experience working within the NHS market landscape, with the ability to build and sustain productive relationships with external stakeholders, KOLs, healthcare systems, and network groups.
  • Strong business acumen (e.g. industry experience or MBA), with excellent communication, presentation, and facilitation skills, and experience operating effectively in an international matrix organisation.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
