Our client is a globally respected leader in lighting solutions supplying into a variety of markets. With a current turnover of around £30m in Europe, they are looking to grow to £45m+ over the next 3 years. A key component to this growth will include a strong strategic focus on expanding their footprint in continental Europe, as well as developing successful new product ranges for a range of industries in line with the company’s strategy.

Due to these growth plans, the company are looking to recruit an experienced Design Engineer who will play a key role in supporting the development and delivery of innovative lighting products, while contributing to the continued success of a respected global brand.

The Design Engineer will be responsible for supporting the design, development, testing, and validation of lighting systems. This role will involve hands-on engineering across electronic, mechanical, and optical design, with a strong focus on mechanical design, electronics, and PCBA development, alongside the creation of technical documentation in line with industry regulations and standards. The successful candidate will contribute to delivering robust, manufacturable, and cost-effective designs while supporting new product introduction, continuous improvement initiatives, and customer-specific development projects on time and within budget.

Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
  • 5–10 years of engineering experience within lighting or a relevant sector
  • Strong hands-on experience in electronic design and PCBA development
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or product development environment (high-volume preferred)
  • Knowledge of LED lighting systems, associated electronics, and control circuitry
  • Understanding of manufacturing materials – primarily plastics and metals
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes
  • Experience supporting PCBA documentation, release processes, and change control
  • Awareness of EMC, thermal, and reliability design principles
  • Good problem-solving and root cause analysis skills
