Role Description
This is a full-time Residential Building Surveyor role based in the West Yorkshire area, offered on a hybrid basis with a mix of on-site and work-from-home arrangements. The Residential Building Surveyor will carry out a range of residential inspections, including condition surveys, pre-purchase surveys, and defect investigations, producing clear, accurate, and client-friendly reports. The role includes advising clients on property condition, maintenance, repair options, and potential risks, as well as conducting feasibility assessments for alterations, refurbishments, or investments. Day-to-day responsibilities also involve managing instructions from start to finish, liaising with clients, agents, and other stakeholders, and ensuring that work complies with professional standards and current legislation. The Surveyor will contribute to a collaborative, supportive team culture, sharing expertise, maintaining up-to-date technical knowledge, and helping refine Novello’s reporting and service offerings.
Qualifications
- Strong residential Building Surveying expertise, with experience inspecting and reporting on a wide range of property types.
- Proficiency in conducting Condition Surveys and related pre-purchase or defect surveys, with the ability to explain findings in clear, accessible language.
- Experience in Feasibility Studies for alterations, refurbishments, or investments, including assessment of risks, costs, and practical options.
- Knowledge of Contract Management and Dilapidations, including managing works, understanding lease obligations, and advising clients on liabilities.
- Professionally qualified (e.g., RICS-accredited degree or equivalent); MRICS or AssocRICS status, or working toward it, is highly advantageous.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality, client-focused reports and advice.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail capabilities, with sound judgment under time constraints.
- Comfort with digital tools and survey-reporting software, and willingness to adopt new technologies and processes.
- Full UK driving licence and readiness to travel to properties across Leeds and surrounding areas as required.
