ASenior Design Engineer - Structural SteelLocation: LeedsSalary: Dependent on experienceHours: 37.5 hours per weekJob Type: Permanent, Full-TimeWhen structural steel moves from a drawing into fabrication and onto site, good engineering is what makes the whole process work.This is an opportunity for an experienced Senior Design Engineer to join an established structural steelwork specialist, working on a varied portfolio of projects ranging from straightforward building frames through to complex steel structures across the UK and Europe.You'll be responsible for developing safe, practical and cost-effective structural solutions, working closely with clients, project teams and other professionals to ensure designs are right from the outset.The RoleAs a Senior Design Engineer, you'll be involved throughout the design process, from developing initial solutions and carrying out calculations through to supporting projects through to completion.Your responsibilities will include:Designing and developing structural steel solutions to meet project requirementsProducing and reviewing structural calculations, ensuring designs are safe, compliant and practicalApplying loadings and assessing stresses and load paths through structural elementsWorking from construction drawings, specifications and client requirementsDeveloping design solutions using industry-standard structural engineering softwareWorking closely with clients, colleagues and multidisciplinary project teamsSupporting tendering and preparing technical information for bidsEnsuring designs comply with relevant legislation, standards and health & safety requirementsConsidering buildability, efficiency and cost when developing structural solutionsProviding technical input and progress updates to clients and senior managementMaintaining high standards of quality throughout the design processKeeping up to date with changes in industry standards, technology and best practiceWhat We're Looking ForWe're looking for an experienced structural engineer who understands how structural steel goes from engineering design through to fabrication and construction.You'll ideally have:Strong knowledge of structural mechanics and engineering principlesExtensive experience working in a structural design engineering roleStrong structural design and calculation experienceExperience within structural steelwork or a closely related environmentExperience with Tekla Structural Designer / Fastrak Building DesignerExperience with Fastrak Portal FrameExperience with Masterframe, STAAD.Pro or similarExperience with Masterseries Connections or other connection design softwareIdeally, experience in structural connection designThe ability to interpret drawings, specifications and engineering requirementsStrong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with clients and internal teamsWhy Consider This Role?You'll be joining an established structural steel specialist with decades of experience delivering projects across a wide range of sectors.The role offers the chance to work on varied and technically interesting projects rather than being limited to one type of structure, while giving you the opportunity to have a real influence on design quality, buildability and project delivery.There is also a strong focus on maintaining and developing technical knowledge, with opportunities to continue building your expertise throughout your career.BenefitsAlongside a competitive salary dependent on experience, the package includes:Company pensionSick pay schemeHealth planCycle to work schemeSave As You Earn share schemeOption to purchase additional holidaysIf you're an experienced Structural Design Engineer looking for your next opportunity within structural steel, apply today to find out more.
