Quantity Surveyor to join its commercial team in Wakefield.
With more than seven decades of experience in the structural steel sector, the business designs, manufactures and constructs steelwork across a wide portfolio of projects throughout the UK and Europe.

The Role
As a
Quantity Surveyor , you will be responsible for the commercial and contractual management of projects, with a particular focus on subcontractor accounts across multiple projects nationwide.
You will work closely with clients, subcontractors and internal project teams, providing commercial guidance throughout the project lifecycle.
The role will involve managing costs, mitigating commercial risk, maximising project value and ensuring financial and contractual obligations are effectively controlled.
This is a varied position offering exposure to projects across the UK and the opportunity to take ownership of key commercial responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all commercial aspects of allocated structural steel projects.
- Manage and agree subcontractor accounts across multiple projects.
- Analyse and agree subcontract documentation, including terms and conditions, warranties and bonds.
- Prepare and submit variations, claims and measures.
- Support interim valuations and final accounts.
- Monitor project cost and revenue performance.
- Prepare and maintain cost and cashflow forecasts.
- Provide commercial and contractual advice to internal teams and external clients.
- Monitor project financial performance and identify commercial risks and opportunities.
- Liaise closely with clients and subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Attend project sites nationwide to meet with clients and subcontractors.
- Ensure commercial processes and contractual requirements are followed.
- Support the successful commercial delivery of projects from commencement through to final account.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum
5 years' experience within the construction industry .
- Previous Quantity Surveying experience.
- Strong commercial and contractual understanding.
- Experience managing subcontractor accounts.
- Experience with variations, claims, valuations and final accounts.
- Strong understanding of project cost control and forecasting.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- Ability to liaise confidently with clients, subcontractors and internal stakeholders.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.
- Willingness to travel to sites across the UK.
Desirable Requirements
- Previous experience within the structural steel industry .
- HND, degree or other relevant academic qualification.
- Professional membership of
RICS .
- Experience working for a structural steel contractor or specialist construction business.
- Knowledge of structural steel fabrication and erection processes.
- Experience managing commercial aspects of multiple projects simultaneously.
