This role is a key part of the commercial success and financial control of structural steelwork projects from initial tender stage through to final account. The successful Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for managing cost planning, valuations, variations, and commercial reporting across a range of structural steel projects.

You will work closely with project managers, estimators, engineers, clients, and subcontractors to ensure projects are delivered profitably, commercially controlled, and contractually compliant.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage all commercial and financial aspects of structural steelwork projects
  • Prepare, submit, and agree interim valuations and final accounts
  • Measure and value works in accordance with contract requirements
  • Assess and agree variations, change orders, and contract variations
  • Review project drawings, specifications, and contract documentation
  • Liaise with clients, main contractors, and subcontractors on commercial matters
  • Monitor project costs, budgets, and financial performance throughout delivery
  • Prepare cost reports, forecasts, and cash flow projections
  • Procure and manage subcontractor packages and negotiate terms
  • Support tendering and pre-contract commercial activities where required
  • Ensure compliance with contractual obligations and company procedures
  • Identify commercial risks and opportunities and provide mitigation strategies
  • Assist in dispute resolution and contractual negotiations where necessary
  • Work closely with project teams to ensure accurate cost control and reporting
Ideal Candidate Profile
  • Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor within structural steelwork or construction
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial processes
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering and architectural drawings
  • Experience with valuations, variations, and final accounts
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills
  • Good understanding of steel fabrication and installation processes (desirable)
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong attention to detail and commercial awareness
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and commercial management systems
  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or related discipline (preferred)
