My Choice Children's Homes are a group of nine nurturing children’s homes throughout Sussex and Surrey. Our homes provide a nurturing, medium to long‑term, non‑institutional environment for children to begin to work towards their future and independence, to return home or to alternative carers. We support our children empowering them through therapeutic services, to face the issues both in their past and present that have caused them difficulties, resulting in outstanding outcomes for them.

We are looking for resilient individuals that have worked within a caring environment for children and/or adolescents, to act as a professional parent and role model, providing a safe and secure home. As well as a leader for the staff team and support to the Home Manager. Hours of work are an average of 42 hours per week, working an annual rolling rota pattern of two days on, three days off. Therefore, you can work any day of the week (in this pattern) and to sleep-in at the home (sleeping in room provided) when on duty for which you are paid a rate per night (this is included in the salary).

To succeed in this role you will need:

  • Evidence of good working practices within the care sector and suitable to work with children.
  • Able to build appropriate relationships with young people and form good communications.
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare.
  • Within the last 5 years, worked for at least 2 years in a position relevant to residential care of children and for at least one year in a role requiring the supervision and management of staff working in a care role.
  • Experience with and understanding of Ofsted.
  • Good knowledge of Child Protection procedures.
  • Detailed knowledge of the Children Act 1989.
  • Emotional resilience in working with challenging behaviours.
  • Good leadership skills.

Daily duties include but aren’t restricted to:

  • To ensure compliance with SOP/Ofsted and meet all minimum standards.
  • Promote the welfare and development of the children and protect them from harm in and outside the home.
  • Meeting and recognising the young people's needs and ensuring that they are free from discrimination within the home and to challenge discrimination from outside the home.
  • Regularly review all young people's care plans.
  • Supporting the Home Manager and undertaking other duties at a higher responsibility level when necessary, to support the needs of the home and Children and young people.
  • Lead and manage the team.
  • Conduct supervision.
  • Complete monitoring of reports and records.
