About the role
This is a hands‑on visitor‑facing role supporting activities, education sessions, events and the daily presentation of Aldingbourne Country Centre. The role suits someone energetic, reliable and confident with children, families, visitors and adults with learning disabilities.
The job is not just “helping at events”. The role needs someone who can open areas safely, run activities properly, spot hazards, speak to visitors confidently and keep the site looking ready for trade throughout the day.
What you will be doing
- Welcome visitors professionally and create a positive first impression.
- Help deliver children’s activities, seasonal events, educational sessions, games, crafts, scavenger hunts and family activities.
- Set up, supervise, clean down and pack away event and activity equipment safely.
- Complete opening, closing and safety checks for visitor areas, activity spaces and outdoor attractions.
- Monitor activity capacity, weather, visitor behaviour and equipment condition during the day.
- Support the safe running of inflatables, gazebos, marquees, educational spaces and temporary activity stations where required.
- Answer visitor questions, promote activities and events, and deal with minor issues professionally.
- Support people with learning disabilities to take part in meaningful activity within the team and wider Country Centre.
- Keep public areas clean, tidy, stocked and safe, including bins, toilets, play areas, activity equipment and event spaces.
- Use radios and agreed communication procedures to keep colleagues informed.
- During busy periods, support other departments where operationally required, including visitor experience, shop, café, farm or wider site activity.
What we need from you
- Warm, confident and approachable with good customer service standards.
- Reliable, punctual and willing to work outdoors in changing weather.
- Able to work weekends, public holidays and school holiday periods by rota.
- Comfortable speaking to children, families, groups and visitors of different ages and abilities.
- Able to follow written procedures, risk assessments and instructions.
- Able to work independently when required, but also support the wider team without being chased.
- Good judgement, practical problem‑solving and the confidence to raise concerns quickly.
- A commitment to dignity, respect, inclusion and positive outcomes for people with learning disabilities.
Desirable
- Experience in events, visitor attractions, education, youth work, care, customer service, hospitality or retail.
- First Aid, Fire Safety, Manual Handling or Safeguarding training. Training can be provided where required.
- Basic IT and administration skills.
- Independent transport, as the site is in a rural location.
