Description of role:

We have a hiring for an experienced and knowledgeable Facilities and EHS Manager with experience of working within the in-vitro Diagnostics or Medical Devices industry to the required industry standards and legislation. This role also incorporates the management and oversight of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) practices globally, including responsibility for managing the company’s carbon footprint and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations at all global sites.

The Facilities and EHS Manager will be responsible for overseeing building maintenance and the H&S for the site in Manchester, Global Subsidiaries sites as well as the company’s wider EHS strategy. You will plan and coordinate all installations and refurbishments, manage the upkeep of equipment and supplies to meet health and safety standards, inspect buildings’ structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations, and drive the company’s global EHS agenda including carbon footprint monitoring and reduction strategies.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • Plan and coordinate all installations (telecommunications, heat, electricity etc.) and refurbishments.
  • Inputting into the design stages of a project and identifying future maintenance issues.
  • Liaising with clients and contractors.
  • Overseeing building maintenance and support services such as cleaning, catering, hospitality, security, refrigeration, HVAC, and parking.
  • Manage the upkeep of equipment and supplies to meet health and safety standards at all sites.
  • Inspect buildings’ structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations.
  • Review utilities consumption and strive to minimise costs.
  • Ensuring buildings function smoothly throughout their operational life.
  • Control activities like waste disposal, building security etc.
  • Ensuring buildings meet health and safety and energy efficiency standards.
  • Allocate office space according to needs.
  • Keep financial and non-financial records.
  • Managing budgets and accounts.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor global EHS policies and procedures in line with regulatory and industry requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations at all company sites globally.
  • Identify and mitigate risks related to health, safety, and environmental impact.
  • Lead initiatives to monitor, report, and reduce the company’s carbon footprint in alignment with corporate sustainability objectives.
  • Coordinate EHS training for staff to promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of local and international EHS legislation and best practices.
  • Collaborate with site leads globally to ensure consistency and effectiveness of EHS implementation.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven experience as a Facilities Manager.
  • NEBOSH Qualification preferable.
  • Well-versed in facilities management best practices.
  • Requires working knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, safety procedures, and cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Experience in facilities tender contracting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and leadership skills.
  • Good analytical/critical thinking.
  • BSc/BA in facility management, engineering, business administration or relevant field.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and other environmental regulations.
  • Experience of clinical waste disposal.
  • Strong understanding of EHS principles, sustainability practices, and carbon footprint reduction strategies.
  • Experience in global health and safety regulation compliance.
