We are currently recruiting for a Registered Manager to lead our new children’s residential home at Heanor, Derbyshire, DE75 7AJ.
The home will provide care for up to three children and young people aged 5 to 17 years old. The home includes a staff office, sleep-in room, games room, sensory room, and parking for up to 3 cars.
The home will specialise in supporting children and young people with mild learning disabilities, with some children also presenting with emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD).
You will be supported throughout the Ofsted registration process and will have the full backing of a committed senior leadership team who share your passion for delivering outstanding care.
About the Role
We are looking for a confident, passionate, and experienced Registered Manager with proven leadership experience in a children’s residential care setting. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Registered Manager, or a strong Deputy Manager ready to step up, to be involved in the setup, registration, and operational launch of a new children’s residential home.
The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of Ofsted regulations, safeguarding, and the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015. They must be able to lead a staff team, make sound decisions under pressure, manage complex situations with resilience and empathy, and help create a safe, stable, and child-centred home.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the setup, registration, and operational launch of a new children’s home in line with Ofsted requirements.
- Provide strong and inspirational leadership to the staff team.
- Lead on recruiting, training, supervising, and developing colleagues to deliver exceptional care.
- Ensure the home meets and exceeds Ofsted standards, the Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, and the Quality Standards.
- Lead on all aspects of safeguarding, compliance, and quality assurance.
- Oversee Regulation 44 and Regulation 45 processes.
- Promote a positive, child-centred culture where young people feel safe, supported, and empowered.
- Ensure children receive safe, consistent, nurturing, and high-quality care.
- Support young people with mild learning disabilities and some emotional and behavioural difficulties.
- Manage budgets and resources effectively to ensure sustainability and quality of care.
- Work collaboratively with external professionals, families, social workers, local authorities, education providers, health professionals, and other agencies.
- Ensure care plans, risk assessments, placement plans, behaviour support plans, and daily records are completed to a high standard.
- Prepare the home for Ofsted inspections.
- Create a positive culture where staff feel supported, valued, and clear in their roles.
- Work closely with the Responsible Individual and senior leadership team.
Applicants Must Have
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a children’s residential care setting.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children and young people.
- At least 1 year of experience in a senior role, such as Deputy Manager, Registered Manager, Team Leader, or Senior Residential Support Worker.
- Strong understanding of Ofsted regulations, safeguarding, and the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015.
- Good knowledge of the Quality Standards, Regulation 44, Regulation 45, care planning, risk assessments, and safer recruitment.
- Experience working with Ofsted and to Ofsted standards.
- Experience supporting children and young people with mild learning disabilities and/or emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgment, resilience, and empathy when managing complex situations.
- Strong organisational and financial management skills.
- Ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the home.
- A caring, professional, and child-centred approach.
- Enhanced DBS, ideally subscribed to the DBS Update Service, or willingness to apply for an enhanced DBS and subscribe to the Update Service.
- Full UK driving licence preferred.
Qualifications
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services / Residential Childcare, or
- Be currently working towards a relevant Level 5 qualification.

Commute / Relocation
Candidates must be able to reliably commute to Heanor, Derbyshire, or be willing to relocate before starting.
