Join Our Team as a Senior House Officer (SHO) in Psychiatry. Are you a junior doctor with a genuine interest in psychiatry? We’re looking for someone like you to join our friendly and supportive team as a Senior House Officer (SHO). This is a great opportunity to deepen your experience and grow your skills in a meaningful, hands-on role.
In this position, you’ll play an important part in caring for patients in our Psychiatric Intensive Care Units and Older Age Acute units. Working closely with experienced Consultant Psychiatrists, you'll be involved in a wide range of responsibilities — from assessments and examinations to treatment planning, psychoeducation, and medication reviews. You’ll also support with tribunal reports, CPA documentation, and much more.
Every day will be different. You'll be part of a team that responds to psychiatric emergencies and supports patients in crisis, making a real difference when it matters most. We’ll be with you every step of the way — offering ongoing support and development opportunities to help you meet your CPD goals and grow professionally. What you’ll need to join us:
- A medical degree (MBBS or equivalent)
- Full GMC registration in the UK

Baldock Manor is a 40-bed hospital in north Hertfordshire that provides specialist psychiatric services for adults. The hospital has two female PICU (Psychiatric Intensive Care) wards and two acute wards. Our PICU services provide care and support for women at crisis level with a severe mental disorder who require rapid assessment and stabilisation. Our acute wards care for older adults, usually 55 years or older, who need a short-term hospital stay, where we can stabilise their mental health. The average stay in our acute wards is less than forty days.
