About the Role:

As our Consultant Psychiatrist, you’ll be a visible and respected leader—collaborating closely with a dedicated multi-disciplinary team to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and compassionate care. Your role will combine hands-on clinical responsibilities with strategic leadership, helping us uphold the highest regulatory standards and continuously improve our services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a talented clinical team, shaping treatment services based on best-practice, evidence-based care.
  • Oversee a defined patient caseload and ensure outstanding psychiatric care across the hospital.
  • Collaborate with senior management and external stakeholders to deliver integrated, high-quality services.
  • Mentor and support fellow Consultant Psychiatrists through clinical supervision, appraisal, and revalidation.
  • Champion a culture of professional growth, learning, and innovation.
  • Play an active role in quality improvement initiatives, audits, CPD, and research.

What You’ll Need:

Qualifications:

  • GMC Registration
  • Section 12(2) Approved
  • Approved Clinician Status
  • MRCPsych and in good CPD standing

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ in-patient psychiatry experience
  • Experience in Psychiatric Intensive Care and/or Acute Services
  • Proven clinical leadership and decision-making skills

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of the Mental Health Act (MHA) & Mental Capacity Act (MCA)
  • Excellent communication and organisational abilities
  • Strong understanding of in-patient psychiatric best practices

Working Hours:

Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm

Baldock Manor is a 40-bed hospital in north Hertfordshire that provides specialising psychiatric services for adults. The hospital has two female PICU (Psychiatric Intensive Care) wards and two acute wards. Our PICU services provide care and support for women at crisis level with a severe mental disorder who require rapid assessment and stabilisation. Our acute wards care for older adults, usually 55 years or older, who need a short-term hospital stay, where we can stabilise their mental health. The average stay in our acute wards is less than forty days.
