We are seeking an exceptional Consultant Psychiatrist or existing Medical Director to provide visible, value driven clinical leadership at Baldock Manor Hospital.
As a Consultant Psychiatrist and Responsible Clinician, you will lead the delivery of safe, effective, and high quality patient care, while fostering a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement. Reporting to the Hospital Director, you will hold overall clinical responsibility for the service, providing senior medical leadership across the hospital. You will have line management responsibility for all medical staff, as well as the Clinical Psychologist/Head of Therapies and the Mental Health Act Manager, ensuring strong clinical oversight and effective multidisciplinary collaboration.
You will play a central role in shaping clinical strategy, strengthening governance frameworks, and ensuring full compliance with CQC standards and the Mental Health Act. Working closely with the Clinical Director, Clinical Services Manager and the wider Senior Management Team, you will influence decision making at both hospital and organisational level. This is a unique opportunity to combine hands‐on clinical practice with strategic influence.
You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, while also engaging with external stakeholders including commissioners, regulatory bodies and Hospital Managers. In this highly influential role, you will take responsibility for driving service development, innovation and the long‐term sustainability of the hospital. You will also build strong and effective relationships across the organisation, including with the Nouvita Board, contributing to the continued growth and success of the service.
Requirements:
- GMC registration with a licence to practise
- Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register (CCT or CESR) in Psychiatry
- Approved Clinician status
- Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act
- Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) with evidence of ongoing CPD and revalidation
Experience:
- Substantial experience working as a Consultant Psychiatrist within inpatient services
- Demonstrable experience of clinical leadership and senior‐level decision‐making
- Experience of working within multidisciplinary teams
- Experience of clinical governance, audit and quality improvement
- Experience of working within the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act framework, and holding a higher degree or relevant postgraduate qualification (e.g., MSc, MD, PhD)
- Leadership or management qualification, experience within specialist services (e.g., Older Adult, PICU, Acute)
- Experience contributing to service development or hospital mobilisation
- Experience working within an independent healthcare setting
Baldock Manor is a 40‐bed hospital in north Hertfordshire that provides specialist psychiatric services for adults. The hospital has two female PICU (Psychiatric Intensive Care) wards and two acute wards. Our PICU services provide care and support for women at crisis level with a severe mental disorder who require rapid assessment and stabilisation. Our acute wards care for older adults, usually 55 years or older, who need a short‐term hospital stay, where we can stabilise their mental health. The average stay in our acute wards is less than forty days.
