We are looking for a friendly, reliable Kitchen Assistant to join the catering team at Eltisley Manor, our nursing home in the village of Eltisley, near St Neots, on a fixed-term basis covering maternity leave. Working alongside our chef, you'll help provide a high-quality dining experience for our residents and their guests – and because mealtimes matter so much in a care home, you'll play a real part in residents' day-to-day wellbeing, not just their plates.

Your rota alternates weekly: Monday, Thursday and Friday one week; Monday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday the next. All shifts run 7.30am to 3.30pm – no evenings or split shifts.

What you will be doing:

  • Preparing simple meals, salads and vegetables under the direction of the chef, including modified diets
  • Setting up and serving in the dining rooms, and delivering meal and beverage trays to residents' rooms when needed
  • Preparing beverage trolleys and ancillary items such as bread rolls and drinks
  • Keeping the kitchen and dining areas clean, tidy and safe, following cleaning schedules and signing them off
  • Washing up, storing supplies correctly, and keeping food safety and health & safety records up to date
  • Chatting with residents day to day and joining in with the life of the home

What we are looking for:

You will have experience of food preparation and customer service, an understanding of food hygiene and COSHH, and an awareness of safeguarding. Just as important is the way you work: person-centred, diligent, flexible and happy to muck in when the team needs you. Level 2 Food Hygiene certificate, Level 2 Health & Safety, or previous experience in a care home or hospital kitchen would be a bonus – but full training is provided.

Why Eltisley Manor?

  • Daytime hours only – 7.30am to 3.30pm, with every other weekend free
  • A warm, close-knit team in a beautiful rural setting
  • Full induction and training, including food hygiene
