Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Sports Instructor to deliver sports/physical activity at The Wells Road Centre. The role involves working across all five wards (Mental Illness, Women\’s services, Intellectual Disability, etc.) at The Wells Road Centre, Mapperley, Nottingham. You will deliver group and individual sessions, use the onsite gym and sports hall, and support patients in increasing their physical activity. You will also provide access to the gym, deliver a range of sports, and lead the provision of physical activity and safe gym access under the direction of the ward Occupational Therapists.

Responsibilities

  • Develop opportunities for pathways from the hospital setting into mainstream physical activity and sporting opportunity
  • Educate and supervise unqualified staff in supervising use of hospital gym equipment and gym programmes devised by the sports instructor
  • Contribute to the overall activity and treatment programme delivered to service users within The Wells Road Centre
  • Develop, deliver and evaluate the physical activity offered across all five wards
  • Engage in group and individual session planning and delivery

Qualifications

  • Level 2 fitness or gym instructor qualification. Qualifications in sport/exercise coaching plus GCSE/GCE or equivalent in Maths and English
  • Knowledge of a range of sporting activities
  • Experience working with individuals with mental health needs
  • Good communication, negotiation, and motivation skills
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing circumstances
