Job Description / Person Specification

The Children and Families Department takes a strengths-based approach to working with each other, children, young people and families, and our partner agencies. We call this \’Our Nottinghamshire Approach\’.

Team Overview

Bassetlaw Family Support & Safeguarding Team (formerly District Child Protection Team) based in Retford, Nottinghamshire with opportunity for hybrid working. The multi-disciplinary team includes experienced social workers, newly qualified social workers, early help case managers, family support workers and regularly welcomes students and apprentices into the team. We also work closely with Women’s Aid and Change, Grow, Live (drug and alcohol service).

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the allocated social worker for a limited number of children with complex family circumstances.
  • Co‑work and provide support to social workers to increase their knowledge and skills in high‑quality assessment, analysis and risk management.
  • Hold supervisory responsibility for a small number of workers and support reflective and group supervision within the team.
  • Advise and support workers involved in child‑in‑need and child‑protection plans, foster and kinship care, as well as pre‑proceedings and care proceedings.
  • Engage with courts and maintain a sound knowledge and experience of court work.
  • Collaborate with business support colleagues and dedicated social work support officers to enhance service delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum 3 years post‑qualifying experience in children\’s social care.
  • Experience in mentoring and supervising others.
  • Sound knowledge of court procedures relevant to child protection and welfare.
  • Strong interpersonal and multi‑disciplinary collaboration skills.
