Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The post holder will act as team leader for the team responsible for the maintenance and repair of complex electrical installation, providing technical and managerial guidance, support, and advice ensuring compliance with relevant safety legislation, Trust safety standards, policies and procedures.
The post holder will also provide Authorised Person duties in line the Health Technical Memorandum appropriate to the role.
Administer and be responsible for good timekeeping and staff discipline.
Maintain accurate records of staff annual leave and sickness, ensuring that adequate staffing levels are maintained. Complete an accurate weekly time sheet and ensure that it is correctly authorised and processed in a timely manner.
Plan, prioritise and schedule the work, and issue it to the team working with the HFM Control Room to ensure best use of resources.
Safely and efficiently contain and resolve a wide variety of fault situations in complex and essential services, many of which will be unpredicted and will require sound technical and analytical skills and judgement in potentially stressful situations.
Through \’toolbox\’ talks, group sessions and one to one instruction as appropriate, cascade to your team the training and information received, i.e. health and safety, water safety precautions, statutory guidance and technical procedures. Canvas the ideas and concerns of team members to inform and aid safe and efficient management and feed into departmental committees / senior estates management as appropriate.

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Qualified to HNC Level or City & Guilds Part 2 in Electrical and Electronic Craft Studies in Electrical Installation Work or Electronic Servicing with suitable experience.
- Served recognised EITB Apprenticeship or equivalent form of structured training that is accepted by the profession.
- ILM Team Leader Award or equivalent level of experience working in a supervisory role.
Desirable criteria
- Trained to undertake Authorised Person duties.
Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience in the installation and maintenance of electrical plant and equipment together with a comprehensive level of theoretical and practical knowledge across specialist hospital building services
Desirable criteria
- Competence in the operation and maintenance of a major access control or similar type of system would be an advantage.
- Experience of supervisory maintenance work in a large acute hospital setting.
Communication & Relationship skills
Essential criteria
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, suppliers and contractors using persuasive or negotiating skills and be able to communicate complex information to maintenance staff.
- Ability to explain technical maintenance issues to non-technical staff, contractors and suppliers with particular empathy and understanding.

If you are aged 16 or 17 and applying for a role that is more than 20 hours a week, please be aware that you will be asked to commence an Apprenticeship within the Trust alongside your role, as long as there is a suitable apprenticeship standard available. Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

The system will run a check against the key security features within your documentation. The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

- Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service – I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
- Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£49.50 for enhanced and £21.50 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month\’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
