Overview

There is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic and motivated nurse to join our Paediatric Critical Care senior leadership team for a permanent position.

We are a 14 bedded Paediatric Critical Care Unit comprising of 8 Level 3 beds and 6 Level 2 beds. We care for children under a wide range of specialities and work closely alongside the Children\\\’s Medical Emergency Transport (CoMET) service for the East Midlands region. We are supported by the Paediatric Critical Care Education Team and working alongside Nottingham University, providing learning opportunities for postgraduate nurses.

Responsibilities and duties

  • You will lead a team, deputise and co-ordinate care on the Unit and support the PCCU Matron.
  • You will demonstrate excellent organisational skills and support a cohort of Band 5 and 6 nurses and the wider admin team that support the PCCU.
  • Be an effective leader and role model and regularly take charge of the Unit, ensuring that standards and quality of care and the environment are maintained at a high standard.
  • Provide regular direct clinical care and utilise experience to support the implementation of both clinical and non-clinical governance.
  • Support and lead a cohort of Band 6 and 5 nurses and members of the admin team, carrying out yearly appraisals and ensuring staff training is up to date.
  • The post holder is required to be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Role specifics

  • The clinical band 7 role is a clinical and operational role, including working clinically across the full range of shifts and leading the clinical team while collaborating with the wider PCCU MDT.
  • The operational role is rotated between the band 7 team and involves a 6-8 week rota covering core hours.
  • The post holder will act as Senior Sister/Charge Nurse and will have 24 hours responsibility for the management and delivery of care within PCCU, deputising for the PCCU Matron when requested.
  • They will be a member of a team of Band 7 nurses who take managerial, professional and clinical responsibility for the paediatric critical care nursing team.

Qualifications and requirements

  • You must be an RSCN or RN Child qualified nurse with substantial experience of working in a Paediatric Critical Care environment as a Band 6 nurse.
  • You must hold a recognised Critical Care qualification and Mentors and Assessors qualification.
  • You must be registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

Working hours and conditions

Post holder works 34.5 hours per week. Part-time hours are considered with a minimum of 28.45 hours (equating to 10 shifts per month). The post is within a team of Band 7 nurses who take managerial, professional and clinical responsibility.
