Overview
The post holder will provide support and assistance to Healthcare Professionals within all areas of the Trust. The role will be to work under the direction of the Logistics Team Leader and are primarily concerned with the movement of goods and services in the most efficient and effective way, using the correct lifting and handling equipment. The post holder will be responsible for providing a high quality service from designated destinations as directed, maintaining high standards of service delivery and ensuring the safety and well-being of patients, staff and visitors at all times. They will be responsible for ensuring the electric vehicle meets the daily demands of this service. To adopt a caring and friendly manner at all times.
Responsibilities
- Hours of work are 37.5 hours per week working as and when required covering shifts from 6am – 10pm.

- Responsible for ensuring all the hospitals entrances are kept clean and free from debris, including the removal of all types of waste materials (cardboard, glass, clinical and confidential waste, and sharps).
- Respond to all out of hour\’s requests from Medical Equipment Library for the delivery and collection of all medical equipment.
- Have a basic knowledge of Health & Safety to correctly complete incident forms and report any untoward incidents to Team Leaders.
- Clear corridors, wards and departments of empty cardboard boxes, glass, sharps, clinical, domestic and food waste, and place in the designated containers.
- Logistics duties: collect soiled linen from all wards and departments and deliver to designated storage areas for later collection by Transport; collect clean linen from storage areas and deliver to wards and departments including emergency ad-hoc linen requests; keep linen cupboards neat and tidy; undertake specific site cleaning as directed by Team Leaders, wearing appropriate protective equipment where necessary.
- Assist with the delivery of medical gases to the Trust and provide a delivery service following requests from wards and departments.
- Distribute Pharmaceuticals including the safe transportation and delivery to wards and departments of controlled drugs.
- Assist other staff with duties such as furniture removal.
- Safe use of equipment used personally; appropriate use of expensive/highly complex equipment (e.g., electric vehicles).
- Maintain electric vehicles and equipment to defined standards at all times, reporting defects to the Team Leaders. Ensure vehicles are in operational readiness and carry out safety checks including re-charging and topping up batteries as required.
- Radios are to be collected from the Co-ordinators office at the start of every shift, ensuring they are switched on and fully charged.
- Adopt a flexible approach in response to operational needs regarding duties and hours of work.
- Assist Patient Escort with patient movement as and when required.
- Demonstrate own activities to new or less experienced employees and support induction of new starters.
- Undertake any other duties that may reasonably be required as appropriate to the Grade.
Communication
- Liaise with clinical staff as appropriate to the department\’s requirements/needs.
- Report and relay to appropriate personnel information regarding queries/problems.
- Ensure communication equipment is fit for daily use, test batteries daily and report any fault to the Team Leader.
Other
- Undertakes surveys or audits as necessary to own work.
- Follow departmental policies and comment on proposals for changes in working practices.
- Use equipment safely and maintain a duty of personal care in relation to equipment.
- Demonstrates own duties to new or less experienced employees.
