Nottingham Contemporary is a leading centre of contemporary art in Europe, and among the largest spaces of its kind in the UK. With a reputation for ambitious exhibitions, open ended research and experimentation, and vibrant events, we have offered inspiration, challenge and surprise to over 2.3 million people since opening in 2009. We are in an important moment in Nottingham Contemporary’s history as we embark on a transformative process of rearticulating our purpose and shaping our future.

We are delighted to present an exciting opportunity to be at the centre of an innovative and energetic art organisation. As People and Executive Officer, you will provide efficient support to the Director and Senior Leadership Team, administer and coordinate Boards and Committees, and undertake People administration. This is a great role for someone organised, proactive and motivated to learn, as you will gain experience and knowledge of all teams and workstreams at the organisation, from our exhibitions programmes, to our learning and community events, to our fundraising work.

Your main accountabilities:

  • Delivering proactive and effective administrative support to the Director and Senior Leadership Team, including research, preparing briefing notes, project tracking, and co‑ordination of meetings, communications and papers.
  • Supporting our Board and Committees, including minute‑taking and the provision and circulation of timely, accessible and accurate agendas and papers.
  • Maintaining our People (HR) administration and processes, including coordinating recruitment campaigns and inductions, preparing staff correspondence, maintaining records and creating reports.
  • Undertaking ad hoc People projects, including coordinating staff surveys, updating People policies, researching, benchmarking, and carrying out data analysis.

It is an exciting time to join the organisation in this role, as we are trialling new projects and workstreams to improve visitor experience, increase our reach, and generate income. Your previous experience as an Executive/ Personal Assistant will be essential when supporting our busy Senior Leadership Team in the realisation of these new projects. Organised and with strong attention to detail, you will have the ability to deliver proactive and effective administrative support across a variety of teams and projects. You will enjoy working collaboratively, and your strong interpersonal skills will be useful when engaging with all teams in the organisation.

You will also have some experience or knowledge of HR administration, and your excellent written and verbal communication and strong research skills will come in handy when coordinating HR and recruitment workstreams, or when working with the Head of Engagement, Partnerships and Inclusion to update our internal policies. Due to the variety of workstreams this role supports, the ideal candidate will have an excellent ability to multi‑task and prioritise conflicting deadlines.

If you would like to know more about this role, our team and organisation, we will be holding an informal online information session on Monday 26 January 2026 at 3pm.

We actively encourage applications from people whose perspectives and experiences are currently under‑represented in our team and in the wider arts sector:

  • people who identify as disabled
  • people from ethnically diverse cultural backgrounds
  • people from working class / lower socio‑economic backgrounds

We operate a positive action interview scheme where we will offer an interview to any applicant with a disability or long‑term health condition who meets the minimum criteria for the role. We are happy to discuss accessibility requirements, both as part of the recruitment process and in relation to the role at any time.
