The Vacancy
Ready for a rewarding role where every shift helps our young people feel safe and supported at home?
We have an exciting opportunity to join our diverse and values led organisation as a Night Porter at our Young Person’s service.
Join us as a Young Person’s Night Porter at our Branching Out service in Newark and be a reassuring presence when it matters most. At the heart of our Young Person's Service, you’ll create a safe, secure and welcoming environment throughout the night whilst helping the service run smoothly. You’ll provide vital overnight support, protect the building and respond confidently and appropriately to incidents and emergencies.
About The Role
As our Night Porter no shift is the same, you will be involved in directly responding to and helping our young people with any issues or concerns, they may have, whilst also managing the site, conducting safety checks and operating surveillance of the building.
This position is ideal for someone who remains calm under pressure, is confident working alone and is committed to providing a safe environment for vulnerable young people.
This Could Look Like
- Carrying out regular health and safety checks, including fire alarms, emergency lighting and fire safety equipment.
- Managing visitor and resident sign-in procedures and maintain accurate records.
- Recording and report repairs, accidents, incidents, complaints, anti-social behaviour and potential risks in line with procedures.
- Maintaining accurate logs and provide effective handovers to colleagues.
- Responding to and manage emergency situations involving the building, residents, visitors or colleagues.
What You’ll Bring
- Compassion, resilience and excellent communication skills
- Confidence to calmly de-escalate challenging situations.
- You’ll be able to respond sensitively when tensions or disagreements arise between young people, helping everyone feel heard, respected and supported.
We’re looking for someone who values inclusion and understands that every young person’s background, experiences and needs are different.
We’ll provide the training you need to thrive in this role. You’ll need to be comfortable working independently, using your initiative and making sound decisions during overnight shifts.
An understanding of professional boundaries or experience supporting vulnerable people would be an advantage, but a genuine commitment to the safety, wellbeing and potential of young people is just as important.
Working Times
Our service is here for our young people 7 days a week, 365 days a year, including weekends and bank holidays. You’ll work 37 hours across four overnight shifts, from 8:45 pm to 7:00 am, giving you a clear and consistent shift pattern.
